Towards the end of the day, Greg our Archaeologist, found more signs of smelting. This consisted of many pieces of "slag" containing high concentrations of iron and "glassy" silica bubbles. This indicates a  prolonged occupation by people versed in smelting techniques, extracting iron from the ironstone which is present in the area.
